As some of you may know, as I learn more about cigars and hear about others, I sometimes go off on a tangent away from my cigar challenge. This is one of those moments…
I recently came across the Jas Sum Kral cigar brand. A brand I’ve never heard of before, but keen to try the super full bodied Tyrannical Buc Golem Buc Maduro cigar – billed as ‘a powerhouse of a premium cigar made with the veteran smoker in mind’. As a fan of full bodied cigars, this sounds right up my street.
The stats:
Length: 5 1/2″
Ring Gauge: 60
Strength: Full
Country of origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Pennsylvanian & Nicaraguan
Cost: £17.00 @ Havana House

Background:
The Jas Sum Kral brand was established by Riste Ristevski.

Ristevski‘s background was in IT but his passion lay in cigars and he decided to create his own boutique cigar brand.
He made headlines by releasing the Nuggs, a CBD-infused cigar. CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis flower. CBD is meant to be a safe, non-addictive substance that offers a variety of therapeutic benefits. This was quite a controversial move – not only because of the CBD, but there appears to be a big debate amongst cigar folk whether infused cigars are decent or not.
The Jas Sum Kral cigar range has some very interesting names… Fuck The FDA, Toothpick & Red Knight.
So what about the Tyrannical Buc? Havana House’s website states that this cigar is ‘packed with entrancing flavors of red pepper, earth, chocolate, cinnamon, and hints of fruit, this super full-bodied offering begs to be smoked after a hearty meal, and really shines when paired with a dark imported stout, your favorite cognac, or gourmet coffee drink’.
My experience:
Firstly, the packaging of this cigar is absolute quality! Havana House have done a great job here, including a cigar cutter and some matches – perfect if you are a first time cigar smoker.

The cigar band does look quite cheap – does this give an indicator of what type of quality this cigar is?

The cigar snob in me is outraged, I love a decent looking cigar band. However it’s not often you see a cigar band featuring a sketch of a dinosaur, wearing a golden crown.
Before lighting the cigar I give it a quick whiff, and there is a lovely dark chocolate smell along it’s oily wrapper.
Straight after lighting there is a strong peppery like taste but this disappears midway through the cigar. I get wood and earth flavour notes as I smoke it.

It started off well, a smooth smoke but sort of gets quite bland after the midway point. It reminds me of an Asylum cigar somehow.

My rating: 6 out of 10
