Sampling cigars at The Beaumont Hotel’s cigar friendly terrace

During my recent cigar adventures, I discovered that The Beaumont Hotel in London’s West End has a cigar-friendly terrace.

I later stumbled upon a captivating video by EGM Cigars showcasing the hotel’s exquisite cigar humidor—a true masterpiece! 😍

Intrigued, I promptly added it to my bucket list of cigar spots to visit (which is basically a Google spreadsheet) 😃. And one day, the perfect opportunity came up to visit it!

Background

The Beaumont, an independent 5-star hotel, offers luxurious rooms, a spa, and a 24-hour gym in London’s prestigious West End.

It’s proper swanky Le Magritte Bar, designed in the style of the iconic American bars that rose to fame in London and Paris during the 1920s. The bar specialises in bourbons, American whiskeys, and expertly crafted classic cocktails, served either shaken or stirred to perfection.

Outside, the hotel’s former garage forecourt has been converted into an elegant cigar terrace.

The bar and cigar terrace are overseen by Manager Antonino Lo Iacono, formerly of Mark’s Club, Dukes Bar, and Franco’s.

Central to the experience is the custom DeART cigar humidor, designed by Massimo of DeART in Calvenzano, Bergamo, featuring an embossed tobacco leaf motif resembling Cuba on its front.

Crafted from Sapele mahogany with maple inlays and a Spanish cedar interior, this humidor houses an exceptional collection of Cuban cigars, including classic lines and limited editions.

Their cigar menu is available online for pricing information.

In addition to the cigars, personal cigar storage compartments are attached to the humidor and can be rented for approximately £700 – £1,200 per month.

The Beaumont also hosts occasional cigar dinners—check their website and social media for updates on upcoming events.

My experience

I decided to visit The Beaumont on my birthday, but unfortunately, I couldn’t make a reservation on their website, so I had to turn up and hope I could bag a spot! 🤞

The Beaumont is at 8 Balderton Steet, Brown Hart Gardens, Mayfair London, W1K 6TF. A short walk from Bond Street underground station.

The place is pretty fancy and slightly intimidating walking in – especially when you aren’t staying at the hotel.

I walked into the main hotel through the revolving doors. I told the porters that I wanted to sample some cigars, and they directed me to turn left as soon as I entered to find the humidor. I saw Antonino, the manager, and asked him if I could look inside the humidor because I was interested in sampling one on the cigar terrace.

I didn’t realise that there was a cigar event on the day I visited – doh 😬. Thankfully, Antonino allowed me to sample a cigar, but for a shorter amount of time than usual, which I was grateful for. 🙏.

We walked over to the humidor. It was stunning. It’s the sort of masterpiece that deserves a spot in a museum. It was filled with Cuban cigars 😍. One thing to double-check is the prices of the cigars, as some cigars had labels that differed from the actual cost when you pay for them.

Chatting with Antonino was fascinating. He told me the story about how he worked with Massimo of DeArt, an Italian furniture maker specialising in cigar humidors, to design and make the humidor.

Massimo is a world-class humidor maker who has created many amazing cigar humidors for London’s cigar shops, lounges, and private collectors.

Some of his humidors were sold at the Habanos Festival and this year’s Habanos World Days events.

Regardless of the brief Massimo is given, he seems to always deliver, and he seems to have created something very special for The Beaumont – a Cuban-shaped humidor with a tobacco leaf in the center, surrounded by sunshine. I loved hearing Antonino talk about it.

After selecting a Trinidad Topes cigar, I headed to the terrace.

The terrace is divided into two areas; the section I was in had comfortable seating for about twelve, along with heaters for London’s variable weather.

Staff cut and lit my cigar. I love the Topes, my favourite of all the Trinidad cigars I have tried so far. 👌

After approximately an hour of relaxation sampling a cigar and pairing with a drink, staff had to prepare for the evening’s cigar event. The terrace had to be cleared by 4pm, so my time was up!

My rating: 7 out of 10

Overall, it was a memorable experience.

The humidor is spectacular, and the cigar terrace offers a lovely spot to relax, especially with its warm heaters and intimate setting.

A happy me with cigar and drink in hand.

It’s perfect for a morning or afternoon cigar, and I’m glad I visited since it’s very close to the Bond Street train station.

The cigars at this venue are on the pricier side, which is expected for a high-end hotel. I found the pricing somewhat confusing since there weren’t many cigar menus available on the tables. This was probably because of the event happening that night, and the staff appeared busy tidying up for it. I also walked straight to the humidor upon entering the building – maybe if I went to the terrace first it might have been different. I only noticed the cigar menu online after my visit, which made me uneasy about selecting a cigar and avoiding high prices. While you can bring your own cigar, there’s a £20 fee for that instance, which may not appeal to everyone.

Before visiting, it’s best to have an idea of what you want and the latest competitive cigar prices at London hotels. Although you’ve now got access to the cigar menu. If you can, bring your own cigars and pay the £20 fee to avoid unexpected charges.

I can now tick this cigar spot off my bucket list!
