Edinburgh has welcomed a new addition to its growing cigar scene this week with the opening of Castle View Cigars, a luxury tobacconist offering what might be one of the city’s most picturesque settings. Located at 15 Frederick Street, the shop takes its name from the sweeping view of Edinburgh Castle visible just as visitors step outside its doors.
Open daily from 11am to 7pm, Castle View Cigars promises to be a haven for cigar lovers — whether seasoned aficionados or curious newbies — looking for premium tobacco, expert advice, and a touch of old-world charm.
Castle View Cigars stocks a wide range of premium English Market Selection (EMS) cigars, with a meticulously crafted humidor built by Connell & McFadden Property Development (@connellandmcfadden).
The shop is the brainchild of Dr. Samir Y. Sayegh, an Edinburgh orthodontist who treated over 100,000 patients across a career spanning more than four decades. Having retired in January 2025, Dr. Sayegh has turned his lifelong passion for cigars into reality.
Joining him are two familiar faces to many in the city’s cigar community — Gregor Black and Jared Hoe, both formerly of The Cigar Box in Edinburgh.
Gregor, founder of The Edinburgh Cigar and Pipe Club, brings more than 40 years of experience and a deep appreciation for both Cuban and New World cigars. Known for his love of the Partagas Serie P No.2, he has travelled extensively to cigar-producing regions and developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of the craft.
Jared, meanwhile, blends his passion for whisky and cigars, curating thoughtful pairings that showcase Scotland’s finest drams alongside premium cigars. His personal favourite, the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, exemplifies the light, creamy, and nutty profiles he often recommends.
With the shop’s welcoming atmosphere, expert staff, and prime city-centre location, Castle View Cigars adds yet another spark to what has been a busy week for the cigar industry across the UK — with multiple new openings celebrating the culture and craftsmanship of fine tobacco.
